The Proto Awards, virtual reality’s very own annual awards show, has now announced that July 1st, 2015 will be the starting date for submissions. If you’re looking to garner a little notoriety for your VR project, now is the time to get cracking!

‘The Protos’ are accepting all virtual reality experiences regardless of price tier (both free and paid apps accepted), but must be made available for public download between September 20, 2014 and July 15, 2015. For further submission guidelines, head over to the Proto Awards’ website.

Required for Award Consideration

  1. A VIRTUAL REALITY EXPERIENCE — compiled for Windows (required), MacOS (optional) or Mobile (optional).
  2. LOGO — Your company or team logo at high resolution (vector preferred).
  3. FOOTAGE — 30 seconds of 1920 x 1080 high-resolution stereo vision video footage from your experience.
  4. INSTRUCTIONS — A text file with any necessary instructions for your experience.
  5. TEAM INFO — Names, roles and contact information for your team.
  6. STUDENT ID — A scan of your student ID (if applicable)
  7. ENTRY FEE — $50 (free for students). While we’d love to keep submission free; the intake, hosting, and dissemination of submissions is quite costly and time-consuming. We’ve worked to keep the fee modest and have waived it for student teams.

Winners at last year’s inaugural Proto Awards took home brand new GeForce GTX 980 from sponsor Nvidia, while attendees each received a Google Cardboard kit from DodoCase.
