Oculus and UNINTERRUPTED have released a new 12+ minute short film directed by Felix & Paul, a 360 documentary following the NBA star in his training regime.

“Striving for Greatness: An UNINTERRUPTED Original”, is the latest 360 VR video experience from well respected specialists in immersive cinema Felix & Paul. The new short film follows NBA star LeBron James as he follows his regular training regime during this 13th NBA season.

The new Gear VR experience can be had, somewhat confusingly, as both a direct download, standalone application in the Oculus Store or via Samsung’s 360 VR video service MilkVR.

Samsung’s relationship with the film and LeBron James has also extended to their latest advertising campaign for it’s Gear VR headset, with the sports star. The new ad, called “Let’s go to work”, set to classic Public Enemy track “Welcome to the Terrordome” takes a subtle tack, not actually showing or even mentioning VR until the very end. It’s painfully hip, but doubtlessly effective at the demographic it’s targeting, assuming they know what the mobile VR headset is and does in the first place. Based in the UK, Paul has been immersed in interactive entertainment for the best part of 27 years and has followed advances in gaming with a passionate fervour. His obsession with graphical fidelity over the years has had him branded a ‘graphics whore’ (which he views as the highest compliment) more than once and he holds a particular candle for the dream of the ultimate immersive gaming experience. Having followed and been disappointed by the original VR explosion of the 90s, he then founded RiftVR.com to follow the new and exciting prospect of the rebirth of VR in products like the Oculus Rift. Paul joined forces with Ben to help build the new Road to VR in preparation for what he sees as VR’s coming of age over the next few years.

Would it kill them to make videos like this available to die hard supporters who financed the company by buying DK1 DK2s? Gear VR gets too many sponsored things while rifts are left in the dust.
