We’re excited to get our Rift developer kit come March, who else pre-ordered? We went through the Kickstarter while some pre-orders before and after it. Which category do you fall into? Don’t forget, if you’re a developer you can still pre-order the Rift directly from Oculus:

I did pledge in the original Kickstarter to get a kit :o Even if I’m not exactly a developer by trade, I dream about being one and am currently reading mobile app development chewing through ObjC and Java. Currently very interested of getting into Unity and perhaps learning Blender to try and make my game dreams real, or at least prototypes of the same. I might need to find a source of income before that though :D but then I might not have time… hmh. Still, VR should be every gamers dream, to enter other worlds… I’m looking forward to all the content/prototypes the indie/hacker community will generate when the kits gets into their hands, hopefully I can be part of that :O

Also, I guess I’d better pitch in.

Predictably, I’m a Kickstarter backer. And despite being strapped for cash the week the Kickstarter exploded, I barely even hesitated and I think my Dev Kit was ordered within 2 days of launch. It was, for me, the perfect opportunity to be part of something I’d dreamed of since forever and as such completely irresistible.

What’s more, although colleagues and friends did the usual ‘Oh Paul, what have you bought now?!’ raised eyebrow, I thought it not only a privilege to contribute to this Fledgling enterprise but also that it was a F**king steal too!

Anyway, my hopes are endless and out of scope for this thread. Needless to say the Rift has inspired me to create my first ever website (RiftVR.com) and now to partner with Ben on RoadToVR. Given how bone-idle I usually am, that should be some indication of how important I think this new wave of VR is to the entertainment industry.

And it’s only a month or two away! :)

I am in pretty much the same seat, with the dreams, money situation and hopes :) And I could probably rant on for hours about all my visions of experiences I want to… well, experience, in the Rift. And indeed, time flies… soon… SOON!

That’s what we’re hoping for. :)

Im on the fence about this.

I seriously want one and with it being relatively affordable it is very tempting to put my name down.

As im not a developer should i go for the dev kit now and buy the consumer version when its released ? Or just wait it out for just the final product ?

If you haven’t ordered one yet I’d wait until we get our hands on the dev kit to see how easy it is for non-devs to play games with it.

Pre-ordered and can’t wait till it’s here. Same for the Leap. Also ordered and received a handfull aspheric lenses to experiment with.

Lenses:

Goggles:

And some other weird stuff I found at the Amsterdam flea market ;)

Combined less then €30. Great deal for experiments!

I’m trying to a) create a stationary stereoscopic monitor for developing vrappstore.com so I don’t have to put the Rift on and off a gazillion times while debugging.

And b) create a Rift clone. Need to source a flatpanel but I’ll wait untill I have the dev Rift and untill 1920×1080 panels become available (which is soon if I may believe the news articles around the web).

Nice horde! :)

You’re right on the panels, rumours are that the new Nexus 7 will sport a 1080p panel and I suspect this will become the standard but the end of the year, so supply should be plentiful.

Interesting project. If you fancy a slot somewhere on the website to document your project, let us know.

LG has a new phone with curved 5.5″ 1080p panel.

I’ll get back to that once I have enough to share.
