The screen seems very empty in most vorpX screenshots, even compared to most other rift demo’s which already don’t use a fairly large portion of the screen. I was wondering if that can be noticed when viewed in the rift (I don’t have one yet). Because if it can: why not make those circles a bit bigger and if it can’t: why not increase the screen distance a little bit and then make the circles a bit… Since people have been complaing quite a lot about the resolutions it seems like a waste to not use such a big portion of the screen…
The FOV is defined by the lenses, the circular viewports are almost exactly what you can see when using the Rift, certainly with A Cup Lenses. It wouldn’t matter if those circles were larger, you wouldn’t be able to see them.
Any imagery beyond those circles, is entirely redundant.
In addition to what Paul said, I’d like to add that the first public version will have an adjustable setting for the size of the circles.
Most people won’t have to touch it at all, but some far-sighted people might be able to see a slight hint of the vignette, for them there will be an option to scale the displayed area slightly up. Incidentally this is being worked right now. :)
