Correction: Apple CEO Tim Cook Did Not Visit Valve

A quick correction to a story I posted the other day about Valve working on wearable computer R&D. The tail end of that story included a snippet about reports of Apple CEO Tim Cook visiting the esteemed game developer. The record has been set straight by the head of Valve, Gabe Newell, who cleared things up on the Seven Day Cooldown podcast:

We actually, we all sent mail to each other, going, “Who’s Tim Cook meeting with? Is he meeting with you? I’m not meeting with Tim Cook.” So we’re… it’s one of those rumors that was stated so factually that we were actually confused.

No one here was meeting with Tim Cook or with anybody at Apple that day. I wish we were! We have a long list of things we’d love to see Apple do to support games and gaming better. But no, we didn’t meet with Tim Cook. He seems like a smart guy, but I’ve never actually met him.

It’s understandable that the rumor wasn’t squashed earlier given that “Valve has no formal management or hierarchy at all”, according to employee Michael Abrash, who wrote the Valve-sanctioned post concerning the wearable computing R&D happening within the company.

The original post has been updated to reflect this correction.
