Distance and its developer, Seattle based Refract Studios, are at PAX 2015 to demonstrate their unique futuristic survival racer in VR at a booth that you will not be able to miss.

Distance has been in development for a little while now, ever since Refract Studios was formed back in 2012 in fact. The spiritual successor to experimental student project Nitronic Rush, the developers’ latest title takes its predecessors survival racing mix and amps everything up. Furthermore, the title has VR support incoming and the team have brought a playable VR demo to PAX 2015 this weekend.

This weekend, the team have decamped all their “toys” to the Washington State Convention Center – including some outlandish lighting rigs and a custom arcade cabinet – for PAX Prime, currently underway, concluding Monday 31st August. All the kit to be used to form what has to be one of the most visible PAX Prime booth ever constructed.

Along with crunching for the show, the team have been busy refining the game itself and (importantly for us of course) the VR support, due for release fairly soon.

VR is nearly ready for an early release, but we still need to do some UI improvements to make getting into levels a bit smoother. We also improved the Adventure mode following gamescom so we’ll use PAX to evaluate the build and (pending feedback on the physics) we’ll roll all of the new stuff into the stable build ASAP afterwards.

If you’re interested in trying the new VR build, you’ll need to grab a ticket and a demo slot from the booth, located at the Indie MEGABOOTH #871 (4th floor).

The game is currently available via Steam Early Access here and includes a neat, community focused track editor – with user-created levels freely available to try.
