After years in development, VR stealth action game Espire 1 has a release date set for August. Developer Digital Lode confirmed that the game will be available on Rift, Vive, Index, PSVR, Windows VR, and Quest.

Announced during today’s E3VR showcase from UploadVR, developer Digital Lode announced that Espire 1 will have an August release date, though the specific day hasn’t been confirmed.

Espire 1 is a story-based single-player VR game centered around stealth and espionage, with a healthy does of gun combat. The game is being published by TripWire Interactive, the studio behind the VR title Killing Floor: Incursion.

Players take on the role of a drone operator of the future in Espire 1, wherein you remote-operate the ‘Espire model 1’ stealth robot from the safety of what the studio calls the ‘Control Theatre’ (which also functions as a way to keep players comfortable during the game’s robust free movement locomotion). At GDC 2019 in March, the studio showed off many of the game’s interactive elements, like climbing, opening vents, dragging bodies, and a helmet-activated scanner for identifying enemies.

With the game’s development having begun years ago, it’s unclear how well this graphically complex game will translate to the lesser-powered Quest, but we’re looking forward to seeing how it handles there and on more powerful headsets too.
