GoPro recently announced its ‘Odyssey’ VR camera as the first for Google’s ‘Jump’ video assembly platform. With the two companies working side-by-side on VR video, Google is going to be bringing the Odyssey camera to it’s ‘YouTube Space’ studios in major cities.
With a $15,000 pricetag, GoPro’s Odyssey VR camera isn’t exactly an easy sell for the budding VR filmmaker, especially given the nascent state of VR video. But you might not have to drop that cash to take Odyssey for a spin. Google announced via email that they’re working with their YouTube Space studios to make the VR camera available to “qualified creators.”

YouTube Spaces are studio locations that offer resources, workshops, and collaboration opportunities for YouTube creators. The locations offer filmmakers a chance to get “invaluable hands-on experience with industry-leading production equipment and resources,” according to YouTube.

There are six YouTube Spaces globally: Los Angeles, London, Tokyo, New York, São Paulo, and Berlin. It isn’t known yet which of the spaces will be equipped with the Odyssey camera or when they’ll be available, but Google is promising to share more info as the program moves ahead.
