‘Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond’ Revealed as Respawn’s AAA VR Shooter, Trailer Here

20

Respawn has been know to be working on a ‘AAA VR shooter’ for two years, but today finally revealed the game. Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond brings the iconic franchise back to life, now realized for virtual reality.

Set to launch in 2020, Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond is set in World War II and will put players right in the midst of the fight.

The game is being published by Oculus Studios for Rift, which means it will be exclusive to the Oculus platform, and only officially available on the Rift (though with any luck it’ll play nice with the well known ‘Revive’ workaround).

Medal of Honor is a storied franchise spanning more than 15 games, with the first title launching in 1999. With eight years between the most recent Medal of Honor game (2012) and this upcoming 2020 rebirth, it’ll be very interesting to see how Respawn re-imagines the franchise for VR, and whether it can truly carry it forward.

So far Respawn hasn’t offered too much detail on the features of the game, but at this point it’s clear it’ll be a WWII action shooting game. Hopefully it won’t be long until we learn more.

    Goddamn exclusives!!!
I sure hope they eventually launch it on Steam!

    • Raphael

      They won’t.

  • Jarilo

Damn, a built for VR Medal of Honor? Come on, that’s freaking awesome.

  • TomDiM

Probably just another wave shooter, lol.

    • Raphael

      It’s not a wave shooter.

    • Jeremy Kins

Did you even watch the video? What is wrong with people? How do you possibly have such an absurd attention span that you don’t even watch the video but sprint to the comments to spout incorrect information? It’s clearly not a wave shooter.

      • TomDiM

Yes I read the full article and watched the whole video before posting my comment *as a joke*.

So let me get this straight. Respawn is sitting on a Titanfall
franchise and for their “triple A VR title” they picked the crappy MoH?
They could’ve made a VR mech piloting game and yet they opted out for
WW2, the most boring and bland setting possible? WTF is wrong with them?

    • Raphael

Not everyone wants mechs. Ww2 has a wider market.

    • Andrew Jakobs

Pfff.. Rather have MoH than the boring Titanfall…

    • Master E

Guessing the technical aspects of Titanfall would be a bit tougher to polish than a MoH setting. I’d rather they build a technically sound and good MoH VR title than a Titanfall game that alienates people from VR because they are flying all over the place and dealing with tricky controls.

Though perhaps Titanfall meets Sariento is a future endeavor. Would be really awesome

WW2 is much more exciting for me, we have ENOUGH of futuristic non-sense in gaming.

    • Jeremy Kins

Medal of Honor: Allied Assault is one of the greatest FPS games of all time, right next to Call of Duty 1 and 2. This is absolutely a great pick for their first big VR game. I doubt you’re old enough to have played it if this is the way you think because it’s one of the most intense games ever released and makes a great fit for VR and immersion.

  • Simon “DracoDux” Dev

Looks nice, but most importantly the sound is great! :)

  • Andrew Jakobs

    This looks great.

  • Master E

Great news. Looks pretty good so far too. Hopefully they will have a decent campaign hour wise and maybe an added wave mode and or DM mode

RIP 3D in 2D, this may be the first actual first person shooter in VR, basically like Wolfenstein that began 3D on 2D era years and years ago.

  • DaRc

As much as I love the idea of Titanfall VR, I just don’t think it could be done. It’s too fast and hectic of a game for VR or for a lot of people to stomach.

  • Geralt

Just wow !!!! Cant wait !!!!

  • Jimmy Ray

Does Anyone know if this will be link compatible?
