New ‘Fantastic Contraption’ Mixed-Reality Trailer Teases Twitch Chat Integration

Fantastic Contraption, a building game from Northway Games, is launching tomorrow alongside the HTC Vive, and you’d be forgiven if you’re caught drooling over the newest peek into the studio’s mixed reality gameplay teaser. We know we are.

Twitch streamers may have noticed a chat integration feature teased in the trailer that promises to let them directly interface with fans looking to pitch in the fun. The chat feature, which lets you read Twitch comments while in VR, is coming tomorrow along with settings for mixed reality, and a set of camera direction tools so your real-world compadres can get a better look at the action.

In fact, Northway Games will be streaming demos of Fantastic Contraption live in mixed reality every Thursday at noon PST from their new dedicated studio using their special green screen set-up. People looking to get in on the fun can follow a step-by-step guide on how to set up mixed reality for Fantastic Contraption at home, potentially using it to turn a solo VR gaming experience into an interactive party game. Follow Colin Northway’s Twitch channel for your weekly stream.

The game, which is bundled with HTC Vive alongside Job Simulator and Tilt Brush, includes 50 levels and online solution sharing so you can see the crazy things your friends make. Fantastic Contraption will be sold on Steam for $39.99 after the limited time pre-order bundle offer expires (yet unreleased).

Sarah Northway maintains that the studio will be adding new levels and different modes besides room-scale play, which can use a minimum of 2m x 1.5m (6.5 ft x 5 ft). The studio calls their upcoming modes ‘standing-scale’, ‘seated desk-scale’, and a sitting mode that’s like sitting on the floor playing with Legos. A version for Oculus Touch is slated to arrive later this year.
