Oculus Rift Kickstarter Adds Bulk-buy Dev-team Tiers with Premium Support

The Oculus Rift Kickstarter continues to raise funds; check the sidebar on the right and you’ll find that it is currently sitting at $1.34 million, 536% of the funding goal. Given the excitement, and in an effort to get more developers on board, Oculus has added two new bulk-buy tiers which they say are “perfect for the established or indie game game studio interested in working with the Rift immediately.”

The new tiers now allow the purchase of 2 ($575), 3 ($850), 5 ($1,400), and 10 ($3,000) assembled Oculus Rift units. Each level also comes with a corresponding number of Doom 3 BFG copies which is has been modified to work with the HMD. The 10x unit tier, which Oculus is calling the ‘Studio Pack’ and has limited to 20 slots, also comes with “premium support evaluation” which will give developers a direct line to Oculus for technical support. This move should make it more realistic for developers to jump on board with the Rift and start developing a full-blown project around it.

If you are a smaller group and don’t need premium support, you’ll want to look at the 5x tier which is the best deal at $280/unit, just $5 more, per unit, than the $275 tier which sold out of its 100 slots on day one of the Kickstarter.

All tiers above $275 get access to the SDK, code samples, documentation, and engine integration from Unity and Unreal Engine.
