Pistol Whip Styles System
The new ‘Smoke & Thunder’ mini-campaign isn’t the only new thing in this update. Pistol Whip is also getting a revamped modifier system that will let you customize the game more than ever before.
With the new ‘Styles’ system, you can choose between the game’s five different weapon types—pistol, six-shooter, burst-fire, boomstick, or melee—on any of the game’s levels, including those from ‘2089’ and ‘Smoke & Thunder’. That means for the first time you’ll be able to take the burst-fire pistol, for instance, outside of the ‘2089’ levels. And the first time you can opt to dual-wield it.
On top of picking your weapon type and whether you want to play with a single gun or dual-wield, you can also pick up to five modifiers (many of which were part of the previous modifier system, but there’s a few new ones too).
The combination of weapon type, weapon count, and modifiers you pick is collectively the ‘Style’. You can even favorite a specific Style to save it so you don’t have to remember the exact combination. Every unique combination of level and Style even gets its own leaderboard, providing a bunch of different opportunities to show that you’re the best (at least in your own special way) at Pistol Whip.
In addition to being able to customize your own Style, the game will also present you with ‘featured’ styles from the developers, ‘trending’ styles that other players are playing, and more, giving you plenty of new challenges.

The Pistol Whip ‘Smoke & Thunder’ update lands on all supported platforms (Quest, PC VR, and PSVR) today as a free update. While the game is currently priced at its original $25, Cloudhead Games has announced that it will raise the price to $30 on August 15th. That gives new players a few days to snag the game for its original price, which is by now a steal as the game’s 10 level debut has been bolstered to 28.
