Didn’t get the memo that the critically acclaimed comedian/beatboxer/musical magician Reggie Watts is coming to VR? There’s still time to sign up for the AltspaceVR event, which is being billed as “the largest attended event in VR ever.”

With the social VR app’s newly announced FrontRow feature, which allows performers to broadcast their live acts to multiple instances of a room at one time, it’s shaping up to be the most inclusive live performance virtual reality has seen yet.

Watts will be performing on Thursday, May 26th at 8pm-9pm PDT (click for local time) from AltspaceVR’s special comedy studio in Los Angeles, created in collaboration with the web-based JASH comedy group. Thanks to FrontRow, the act can be broadcast to up to 40,000 people—mirroring Watts’ movements and voice to multiple instances of the same room at the same time.

Fans can watch the performance live directly through a number of devices including Samsung Gear VR, Oculus Rift or HTC Vive, but also in 2D-mode via desktop monitors. Live guests must first register for an AltspaceVR account by heading to the sign-up page, and then RSVP through the event page on Eventbrite.

Apparently the whole Reggie Watts VR performance didn’t go down as smoothly as they had hoped. Black screens upon entry and horribly lagging audio from the performers made it unwatchable. You would think that they did some extensive trial runs before this debacle went down. It was a great idea. Hopefully the next try is a success.
