Sony Enter the Submersion Entertainment Sector with ‘Playstation Flow’

Sony have proven once again that they have their fingers on the collective gamers’ pulse with a new ‘submersive’ technology that fuses your love of swimming with your love of gaming.

Sony have been at the forefront of wearable and immersive technology for years with products ranging from the Glasstron personal media viewer all the way up to the Project Morpheus virtual reality headset.

But now, the technology megacorp have taken one step off into the deep end with a peripheral for Playstation that aims to link your sedentary gaming habit with an active, healthy lifestyle.

The Playstation Flow offers you the opportunity to take water bound gaming sections and add a whole new level of immersion by carrying out those sections underwater. The waterproof goggles, complete with sealed earphones tether to your PS4, overlaying the gameworld onto your face whilst you swim in the real world, say a nearby pool.

It’s an amazing idea with no obvious drawbacks that we can think of. The boffins at Sony have clearly been working themselves to the bone for years in underground bunkers in order to keep this tech a secret.

We’ll keep you in the loop on developments on Playstation Flow and in the mean time we look forward to Sony once again pioneering a format that will be accepted globally, in much the same way they’ve done with the Mini-Disc and Betamax initiatives.
