CCP have announced it’s to bring a new mobile VR title based in the EVE universe – Gunjack Next – to the newly announced Google Daydream Android VR platform.

At Google I/O today, Google announced it’s assault on the virtual reality landscape with Daydream, their Android VR platform to begin shipping with the next version of the mobile operating system.

CCP have now announced that their first game for the new platform will be a sequel to the Gear VR / Oculus Rift / HTC Vive turret shooter Gunjack. Based in the EVE universe you play the part of a gunner of a military space fighter, fending off waves of attacks from enemies in order to defend your mothership.

“When we heard the details about Google’s Daydream platform, we knew immediately that we wanted to be involved,” said Hilmar Veigar Pétursson, CEO of CCP.  “We think the power Google is bringing to the table with Daydream, coupled with our experience creating high-quality and expectations-busting VR games will be a potent combination.”

Road to VR‘s Scott Hayden summarised CCP’s first game in the Gunjack series in a recent review thus: “Gunjack represents one of the most visually impressive mobile VR games we’ve seen to date and that comes along with impeccable technical performance. Without any narrative to latch onto, it doesn’t transcend the turret shooter genre, but it does provide a portable experience that’s far an away more immersive than anything you’d find from a non-VR mobile game.”
