Oculus Rift owners take note: pre-orders for Touch begin today at 12pm PT (your local time), including VR Sports Challenge, The Unspoken as well as an extra sensor and adapter for Rock Band VRThe pre-order bundle will cost $199.

If your pre-ordered the Rift on Oculus.com, you’ll be able to get a ‘priority status’ when the first shipments release from the warehouses on December 6th. Priority status can be obtained only by using the same email you used when pre-ordering the Rift, and will be available for eligible customers up until Thursday, October 27 2016.

It’s unsure at this point exactly what ‘priority status’ will really confer on customers considering both Amazon and Best Buy are taking pre-orders as well, and are bound to have their own allocated stocks of Touch.

If you’re looking to use Touch in a large tracking space, necessitating a third sensor, Oculus is offering extra sensors starting today for $79.

There are actually a few storefronts already taking Touch pre-orders including Amazon.co.uk, and brick-and-mortar GAME stores, but as for EU or USA-based shops, you’ll have to wait until Oculus gives the official OK this afternoon.

Is it clear whether or not Kickstarter backers get same same ‘priority status’ that those who pre-ordered get? It was claimed before that Kickstarter backers were going to be treated the same as pre-orders, but now I’m seeing conflicting reports.

I wouldnt worry too much. Its looking like the floodgates will open Dec 6.

Would everybody vote please for this: https://community.viveport.com/t5/Design-a-Vive-accessory-and-win/Pearl-White-and-Champagne-Gold-HTC-Vive/cns-p/1681 It only takes a few seconds. I made a design for the htc vive

    • Henry

WOW, WE SHOULD HAVE THAT! MAKE IT REAL!

    • Andrew Jakobs

Please don’t spam your ugly designs..

I like the white one. It matches my Computer.

    • Mike Handles

I think black is the standard because of its less reflective qualities. Gold and white would bounce the IR light a lot more compared to black which would likely result in jittering.

Re the Touch Controllers and 2nd sensor — do you have to somehow tie these to a particular Oculus Rift headset?

When I bought my original Oculus Rift, I was under the impression that the Oculus sensor, Oculus controller, and Oculus Rift were all somehow linked together — I mean that they will only work with each other — you can’t swap out say one controller with another … or can you?

The reason I ask is that I have one Oculus Rift setup in the office and another at home — when I get the Touch controllers and second sensor, can I move them back and forth between the two systems, or will they somehow get “locked down” when I use them with the first system?

    • Andrew Jakobs

You can swap them out whatever you want, it’s all just USB controllers.. Yes you can move them back and forth between the two systems..

      • Max The Magnificent

Happy Dance! Thanks Andrew — I’m currently sitting here watching the clock count down to the Touch Ordering going live on Oculus.com

      • Max The Magnificent

Hang on — the sensors are USB connected, but not the touch controllers. Suppose I happened to have two Oculus Rift setups (each with a set of Touch controllers) side-by-side in the same room — would all four controllers be visible/active in each of the Rift headsets?

        • Andrew Jakobs

As you’ll be using 2 setups with their own ‘circle’ of sensors, you would only see the set you’re holding… BUT.. I have no idea if two sets close to one and another won’t have any interference (as in sensor A picks up a faint IR-led from setup B, but I suspect it won’t be such a problem as you’ll probably have the setups far enough from each other..

      • Max The Magnificent

Sorry to keep on bugging you — but do you know if the Touch controllers will work with existing games that use the Xbox controller?

        • Andrew Jakobs

I have no idea, it does have analog sticks and such, so it’s possible they could also act like a regular joypad controller.

          • Max The Magnificent

No worries — we’ll find out soon enough — thanks Andrew — Max

I’m not seeing where the “extra sensor” is available on the Rift website for order. Anybody have a link?

    • Get Schwifty!

      EDIT: I found it: https://www.oculus.com/blog/oculus-touch-pre-orders-are-now-live/

The sensor doesn’t go on sale until October 31st:

“For anyone who wants to support larger room-scale configurations, additional Rift sensors will be available for pre-order for $79 USD* on Oculus.com, October 31 and start shipping on December 6. The Rift sensors will include a USB extension cable. We’ll share more details when Rift sensor pre-orders open.”

    • Max The Magnificent

The Touch controllers come with one extra sensor — my understanding is that you only need a third sensor if you wish to set up a large tracking area

  • VirtualBro

I think I learned my lesson about trying to buy things directly from Oculus earlier this year… I’m glad to see that Amazon is taking preorders at the same time

    • Get Schwifty!

Yeah, same thing happened to some Vive folks as I recall…

      • VirtualBro

haha, yeah, THAT was really infuriating. At least Oculus had their own working storefront and just didn’t have the inventory to back it up. My Vive got delayed by multiple weeks because of Digital River/HTC’s incompetence.

Those guys were not at all ready to handle actual regular customers. They should have gone through a normal retail partner

How long it took… and how expensive all this stuff is! 50 bucks for the revelation of ear buds!! :)

And now we shall be happy that we can finally pre-(!)order the controllers? Actually I am on this list for the controllers for 3/4 of a year now, I think. I had expected quite a discount for those of us with that much patience. Instead you have to get even one more additional IR camera for good room-scale tracking, because for Oculus, two isn’t enough.

I’ll go play with my Vive then. Thanks for nothing.

    • Get Schwifty!

Wow – way to dumb down the situation. Two works well enough for most cases, better tracking with an extra camera and best with four.

The controllers were not promised at launch, expecting a discount for just taking part in a pre-order when the only delivery date was 2016 seems a entitled don’t you think?

No one is asking you to buy the earbuds, they are a purely optional item, take them or not. Given that Vive doesn’t even include them and Oculus provides audio out of the box (consider it half the price of a camera) and then gives you an option to upgrade if you like.

      • Peter Hansen

So the CV1 isn’t only way more expensive than initially announced, but even more expensive than the already expensive Vive, if you want comparable tracking quality. That’s what I am saying, and it seems to be a fact.

Entitled or not, that is my opinion.

And yes, don’t know about yours, but my Vive has ear buds included. That’s why Oculus is providing them now, because of user feedback. And 50 bucks for a pair of ear-buds is astronomical.

        • Get Schwifty!

Hmmm… not sure why we are discussing an old cost issue with the CV1 but whatever.

Nope, I am mistaken about the Vive and the ear buds, they were included my mistake. OTOH, there are plenty of mainstream earbuds that are more expensive than $50 unless you go for crap like Skullcandy and what not. Just a quick check in Amazon reveals a lot of them, so $50 retails is not that far out. If you have a link to a discussion about Oculus users pushing for earbuds I’d love to see it.

  • mbze430

I couldn’t find anywhere to purchase the extra sensor…..

  • mikefunk

I have Vive. I like my wand (hehehe) but I have to say seeing this Touch controller – They fucking nailed it. Looks neat. Small and kind of logical step towards new dimension. I want to try it now.
