DJs looking to hone their musical craft in front of a live audience – or perhaps those looking for a more stimulating way to mix music – can rejoice. TheWave from developer WaveVR is looking to provide DJs with a psychedelic immersive interface to allow them to express themselves creatively and show it off to a virtual audience. Here’s a look at it in action.

The SVVR Conference and Expo 2016 is under way and its exhibitor floor is, as ever, host to a myriad innovative virtual reality projects. One in particular that caught our eye is The Wave, a new electronic creation platform which aims to give musicians an intuitive and trippy interface to build their music – all using virtual reality and motion controls. More than that though, TheWave wants you to hone your public performance too.

TheWave is described by the press release as a “VR music creation and performance platform for aspiring-to-professional electronic musicians, enabling them to host live shows for the millions of electronic music fans worldwide from anywhere, at any time, to as many fans as they want.” So, you can load up your favourite tracks and, using the 3D VR interface, adjust and manipulate the show in real time.

But, whilst you may be telling yourself “it’s all about the music”, TheWave is selling its abilities to allow you to show off your creation to as many people as you like, in real-time, over the web. The application features a virtual networked music venue, where users of TheWave not interested in DJing can flip through channels of performers and checkout their sets within VR.

TheWave look to be attempting to build an entirely new music platform with live virtual shows highlighting the best of the creative community – the first of which will go online this year. TheWave is still early in development, but a beta release for the HTC Vive is targeted for Q4 this year.
