Samsung is keeping the lid shut on exactly why they featured the Gear VR in their ‘Unpacked’ teaser trailer, an event that promises to see the unveiling of the Galaxy S7. But if you’ve already got your hands on a Gear VR or a Google Cardboard viewer, you’ll be able to see the event streamed live on the eve of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) directly to your headset.
A quick download of the Unpacked 360 View app is all you need to see Samsung’s pre-MWC 2016 event unfold on your mobile device—whether you have a Gear VR or Google Cardboard, Samsung wants you to watch in 360.
While Unpacked will be taking place 21st February at 7pm CET (click here for local time), you can download the Android or iOS Cardboard app right now. Users without a compatible either Gear VR or Cardboard viewer can head over to the Samsung Unpacked website and view the 360 feed on traditional monitors.
The app gives you a choice of 4 live 360 cameras to view the event as you please, with a view from the auditorium, stage left, stage right or from center stage to pick from.
A little healthy speculation: we’re hoping to hear that the 360 app is indeed a clever outing of the rumored Samsung Gear 360, a device name Sammoble have discovered from recent trademark filings by the company. Although Samsung is still remaining tightlipped, it would make a certain amount of sense (and wow factor) to reveal a 360 camera to a virtual crowd of spectators, if only to echo that the proof is in the pudding.
