‘Battlefield’-like VR Shooter ‘Forefront’ Launches Open Alpha for 16 vs. 16 Multiplayer Action

7

Forefront is an upcoming Battlefield-inspired VR shooter which promises huge 16 vs. 16 firefights in large spaces with vehicles on Quest and Steam. The studio just surprise-dropped an open alpha of the game to gather player feedback and stress-test systems.

Forefront comes from Triangle Factory—the studio behind competitive VR shooter Breachers—so we expect the gunplay and gadgets are going to be solid. But compared to many multiplayer VR shooters which top out at 4 vs. 4 or maybe 8 vs. 8 players, Forefront is trying to tap into large-scale battles with teams up to 16 vs. 16, along with an array of vehicles like tanks, helicopters, and jeeps.

The studio has just launched an open alpha for Forefront, which will be available starting right now for 24 hours, and between August 15–17th. Interested players can check out the game’s official Discord server for sign-up details.

Forefront is planned for launch on Quest 2, Quest 3, Quest 3S, and Steam.

stop using discord. can't stand it. won't use it. was interested in trying this out as a long time BF fan not so happy with BF6 beta and also wishing BF was in VR sometimes. Though it does look questified AF which is a red flag for a game. PC and PSVR2 VR player here. Had quests hate quests. Standalone sucks. LCD sucks.

I agree, discord is mostly people "talking" through each other in a lot of channels.
but I don't agree on the hate for Standalone or LCD.

You seem to have missed that this is an alpha test and TRaingle Factorys other games.
no need to worry about anything "Questified".

It's a lot of fun, i played for a bit and it has that oldschool Battlefield-vibe written allover it. As a fan of BF and VR this is right up my alley. I tried the BF6 beta but the maps are terrible throughout, so Forefront might be the perfect replacement MP shooter later this year. Really hope it'll eventually turns up on PSVR 2 as well

I wish pavlov would increase their round cap. They made maps and modes that are fun with more people but the community servers that supported 20 or 32 people are mostly gone, and the dev run 20 person servers were just a promotional thing for the PUSH update years ago. If we can't have larger lobbies, I want to see more games add some depth to small lobbies then. Focusing players on narrower lanes of engagement, adding programmable agents like trucks moving ammo and health packs around or drones, and letting players adopt interesting roles without just being a hero shooter.

I've heard of new kinds of hardware system clocks that allow for much tighter online systems with less latency and more reliability. I would love to see that in a headset and developer servers that run on the same kind of network hardware so we can have much larger crowd size experiences. But that might require an ethernet jack on the back of the HMD too.
