Legendary programmer and Oculus CTO John Carmack took the stage today at Oculus Connect to have another one of his famous off-script, stream-of-thought talks. Carmack was instrumental in architecting the company’s mobile VR platform, so when he talks about the 3DOF standalone headset Go, pretty much everyone listens. There’s a few sore spots in Oculus Go that Carmack thinks could be solved in the next generation of low-cost VR standalones.

‘Moss’ is Coming to Oculus Quest at Launch

There isn’t a list of launch titles for Oculus Quest yet, the company’s newly announced $400 high-end standalone VR headset. Polyarc, the minds behind Moss (2017), say that the super endearing platformer adventure is indeed going to be among the 50+ launch titles coming to Quest on day one.

Oculus Connect, the company’s annual developer conference, kicked off yesterday with the surprise announcement of a new high-end standalone VR headset. Dubbed Oculus Quest, the headset is being shown off at Connect in an array of colors outside of the initially advertised matte black.

Oculus Quest was the main attraction at Oculus Connect 5 this week. Following the high-end standalone headset’s reveal, attendees of the conference got to try several demos to experience the headset’s inside-out positional head & hand tracking, including in an ‘arena-scale’ setting. We also got a handful of interesting details about the headset’s specs and capabilities.

Oculus today offered up some details on the ‘Insight’ tracking system of their new Quest headset. The inside-out tracking goes “beyond roomscale,” according to Oculus, enabling large-scale experiences that let players physically move around large spaces. Additionally, Oculus Quest is equipped with the familiar Guardian system to keep you from bumping into your surroundings, now upgraded to support multiple rooms.

ILMxLAB, the immersive media wing of Industrial Light and Magic (ILM), today revealed at Oculus Connect 5 that they’re producing a series of Star Wars VR experiences for Oculus Quest, the company’s upcoming high-end standalone VR headset. The first in the series, dubbed Vader Immortal: Episode I, is said to come exclusively as a Quest launch title, and follow the exploits of Darth Vader.

Google’s ‘YouTube VR’ App is Coming to Oculus Go Soon

Mech Simulator ‘Vox Machinae’ Available Now After Surprise Launch at Oculus Connect

Vox Machinae, a long running indie VR project, is available right now on the Oculus Rift, SteamVR, and PC. The game received a surprise launch into Early Access today at Oculus Connect 5, bringing a new beginning to a title that’s been in the works for nearly four years.
