VorpX, the drivers that lets you play your favourite games in virtual reality on the Oculus Rift, has just received an update that brings with it official preliminary support for the newly released Fallout 4.

Hot on the heels of VorpX‘s biggest release ever, 0.9, comes an update which adds in support for one of the year’s biggest games – the much anticipated Bethesda title Fallout 4. Update 0.9.1 adds both a Z3D profile as well as optimised defaults for the RPG which lets you drop into the title with as little fiddling as possible.

Based in the UK, Paul has been immersed in interactive entertainment for the best part of 27 years and has followed advances in gaming with a passionate fervour. His obsession with graphical fidelity over the years has had him branded a ‘graphics whore’ (which he views as the highest compliment) more than once and he holds a particular candle for the dream of the ultimate immersive gaming experience. Having followed and been disappointed by the original VR explosion of the 90s, he then founded RiftVR.com to follow the new and exciting prospect of the rebirth of VR in products like the Oculus Rift. Paul joined forces with Ben to help build the new Road to VR in preparation for what he sees as VR’s coming of age over the next few years.

If they VorpX doesn’t expand beyond the Oculus Rift they will bite the dust. Only a tiny specialist geek market with excess money will be buying that and the PC it requires.

(Please stop sending me email I must respond to at a creepy, slow site in order to get notified. Just do it.)

Many comments at reddit are that this is choppy as hell, way to go road to vr, spoil the well and make more people vr sick by advocating this. This could have been a made for VR title and optimized for VR and reduce sickness, but it seems zenimax chose to drop any support for VR after palmer broke his NDA with them, must be why he is so anxious to have the court case heard in California instead of Texas. Ralf like Rev Kyle said recently about the presidential debate disaster on streaming such poor quality, you get an a for effort, but the execution may hurt the whole industry with bad marketing and spoiled wells. Road To VR, where is your objective reporting on this, does vorpx advertise with you? (sigh)

Can you specify the “many” in “many comments”. I only saw one such comment by someone who apprently created an account just for that one comment for some reason, which then was deleted after a few hours. Thanks!

I have played Fallout 4 with Vorpx on my DK2 and GTX 680. It runs very well and the graphics are great. Vorpx is an excellent piece of software especially since the 0.9 version came along. Yes, this game could have had native VR support but that has absolutely nothing to do with Palmer or Zenimax. Zenimax simply want to make money for nothing by claiming their IP was stolen. That’s the modern way corrupt businesses try to make money. The reason Fallout 4 doesn’t have native VR support is because the big games publishers are the last to see what’s coming. Companies like EA, Rockstar and Bethesda will bury their heads in the sand and pretend VR isn’t a thing until they realise they have to change. Nadeo (Trackmania), Epic Games, Crytek, Unity, Frontier Developments are examples of companies who are smart enough to see the oncoming VR revolution. It has absolutely nothing to do with the bogus lawsuit from zenimax. Is this really the kind of bollocks you’ve been posting on reddit? No surprise I guess.

What a crock of nonsense. Oculus sold all of their DK1 and DK2 and every new kickstarter for HMD VR exceeds the target funding goal within a few weeks so the market for VR is huge. Palmer is the reason consumer VR is now a thing. There are plenty of existing gamers who already have hardware meeting the specs for Oculus Rift. I have a 3 year old PC that runs Oculus just fine.

Can you educate us all about the price advantages of HTC Vive or Project Morpheus? Morpheus requires a PS4 and won’t be cheap. Oculus will have a new generation of affordable PCs and the introduction of DX12 means those games will run much faster on less hardware.

What should vorpx expand to? HTC Vive? Take a look on STEAM for HTC Vive games and you will get very small search results. HTC Vive will be more expensive than oculus so your comments about price are totally stupid.

Nah, I don’t respond with substance to offensive trolls such as yourself. I’d sure hate to be you.

        • laser632

You don’t respond with substance full stop.

I know, you’d hate to be someone with an informed opinion about VR. Knowledge sucks right?

Aaaaand points awarded to laser632. Well done, sir.

      • luttz

Well it turned out that your price argument was stupid and likely the morpheus/PlayStation VR could be the cheapest option in the end (with latest rumors it would be so much cheaper than an oculus that with a PlayStation 4 together it woukd just match oculus’ price). We’ll see, but real affordability won’t happen for a while…

Uninformed troll. Your statements here aren’t the dumbest I’ve read this year but you’re in the top 10 for uninformed, inaccurate assumptions about Oculus. You should sign up and troll at gamespot. You will find like-minded numpties there.
