This is my last episode before travelling to sunny California to experience the awe and wonder of the SVVR Expo. Before I packed up, I wanted to share a fun story with all of you that involves a YouTuber who accidentally stumbled into social VR.
Rev VR Podcast – Episode 104
Caleb, who runs the Reality Check VR YouTube channel, had already been playing around with VR when he noticed a link on his Twitter feed. “VR Chat? What is that?” A quick download later, he clicked a notification that send him hurdling down the rabbit hole, and straight into Gunter’s Universe.
At first, he had no clue whether the show was live, or fake, or something else entirely. Only after deciding to politely interject did he get welcomed into the conversation and the event was explained. The best part about this whole event was that he recorded it and posted it to his YouTube channel.
Watching someone experience social VR for the first time, and be able to watch a recording of his reactions genuinely unfold, is a glorious thing. It is also a great way to see how welcoming and polite the VR Chat community is, which will hopefully encourage others to come join the fun.
I do take a quick moment to touch on the ‘JammerGate’ scandal involving a slight change in the Oculus Mobile VR Jam rules, only to have them changed back a few hours later. A scandal so quickly resolved, that most VR news sites never even touched it.
Lastly, be sure to listen to VR Casters during the SVVR Expo to experience live interviews and feeds. We will be streaming as much content as we can.
