  • Just don’t find these lists useful. The most popular games/apps isn’t really a reflection of much beyond how well a company managed to get their game seen and played by lots of people, and usually it’s a bunch of casual stuff or fitness apps and the like. Sometimes it’s because it’s just a really great VR game and top of its class, but that’s really not always the case. And the ratings here are mostly from a bunch of casuals and noobs who don’t really know what makes a good game in general, never mind a good VR game. Also, the way these algorithms work just means the same games that are already popular will constantly rank at the top and little new stuff will ever get a chance to be noticed, especially if it’s not coming from one of the bigger and/or more popular studios. I think a list of the best VR games as decided by you guys is more useful personally.

      I appreciate the feedback. We do Game of the Year and other subjective picks for best games. Having this objective data out there is useful as well (not necessarily for choosing games to play, but to see which are performing well on the store and why).

      • Yeah, I guess they’re good for analysts and people following market trends and things. And they’ll possibly come into their own in thirty years time when some people are trying to look back and get a picture of what the early VR market was like.

      I know what you mean And agree somewhat but think the list mostly is fair.
      You got Moss Book 2 in the top which is a New game.
      And i expect you to die 2 is pretty new.
      Walkabout mini golf is also one of the best VR games out there releasing new stuff regulary.

      I agree with you, but for a different reason: these rankings are based on the average ranking each game gets… which actually favours new and small games! The most popular games then get bought by other people who may be less enthusiastic, which is why you often see games coming in high, like Moss II but then drop as other players are not as enthusiastic.
      But where the system goes wrong is that literally everything gets 5* rankings, which is why #1 has a score of 4.90 and # 20 of 4.74 – really not all that different. In fact if 10 bad people got together and all gave the #1 game 1*, the game would fall to third or fourth place and if 50 people gave 1*, the game might drop out of the best 20 games altogether!

    If this was a PCVR article, you could just recycle stats from any point of time in the past 3-4 years. Noone would notice.
