It’s important know that all of the Windows VR headsets, except those from Samsung, share the same specs and are effectively the same headset. That means if you’re looking for a VR headset from Acer, Dell, HP, Lenovo, or Asus, you’re probably best off buying the best deal on any of them that you can find. It’s also important to know that all of the aforementioned headsets have seen rolling sales for a long time now. So while there’s no ‘official’ manufacturer’s sale on any of those headsets, some of the best discounts are coinciding with Black Friday & Cyber Monday.

Basic Windows VR Headsets

In the case of that first group of headsets, the best Windows Mixed Reality Black Friday & Cyber Monday 2018 deal is the Acer Windows Mixed Reality headset for $180 at Amazon (a 55% discount). The deal is eligible for fast & free shipping with Amazon Prime. This is the cheapest that any new Windows VR headset has been for many months.

Important Note: The Acer headset (and the others) required a Bluetooth connection to function. If your PC doesn’t already have Bluetooth equipped, you’ll need an adapter. We use this one from Amazon for $8 which has worked flawlessly.

Samsung Odyssey+

The Samsung Odyssey+ is the high-end headset among the Windows Mixed Reality headsets. If that’s what you’re looking for, the best Samsung Odyssey+ Black Friday & Cyber Monday 2018 deal is direct from Samsung for $300 (a 40% discount) [may be backordered].

Important Note: The Odyssey+ (model number XE800ZBA) is a slightly newer version of the headset with some refinements which you can read about here. We recommend it over the original Odyssey (model number XE800ZAA). Also note that the Odyssey+ does not require a separate Bluetooth adapter, but the original Odyssey does. Also, keep your return receipt handy; ergonomic comfort on the Odyssey headsets can be hit or miss depending upon your head.

The title made it sound like they were actually going to be cheap.

    • Rogue Transfer

At around half the price of the old headsets like Rift/Vive, they are.

    • Dr FlimFlam

They were, I managed to buy a lenovo explorer with controls for 150.

    Wheres the odyssey ?

    • wcalderini

There is a link in the article for the odyssey. Could not pass it up for $299.

      • JesuSaveSouls

You got it ? Nice let me know what you think.Find me on steam…BelieveJesus&followHim.

I “ordered” it during the Black Friday promotion. Looks like they are backlogged. I have a shipping date of 12/16/18. I’m in no hurry though. Have a Vive Pro, Rift, PSVR, and GO to play with until then. Really just interested in the new screen tech. The Old Odyssey, which I’m giving away, was VERY sharp for what it was. But when I upgraded to Vive Pro it became kind of redundant, and with controller and tracking differences I was just better off with the Vive.

Tell me more about this Odyssey, you’re “giving away” :D :D :D

          • wcalderini

Sorry. Done deal. Gave it to a friend of my daughters who started really getting into to VR. I figure I’ll grow the platform one at a time. A Virtual Johnny Appleseed. But in all honesty, with the Odyssey Plus selling at $299 I really did not want to go through the whole mess of trying to figure out a price for year old tech. And she’ll let my daughter, who refuses to get a gaming PC-(Mac Girl), play Beat Sabre and Fruit Ninja.

Let them hit under 100 and then its cheap.

Come and take advance advantage of the greatest time to experience vr.

  • Does anyone know the stats on which WMR headsets sell the most? (excluding Samsung) I’m really curious since they are almost identical to each other in specs if there is any clear preference in aesthetic or brand. I have an Acer and I bought it on sale. But I think I would have chosen it anyway. I love the blue and the kinda 80s-90s future look :)

    • Jesus Izco

I think the lenovo explorer is the one it is selling more because it is having great offers.
It is the one I’ve got and for me it is the best one of all the standard WMR headsets, is the lightest and more confortable.

    • Dr FlimFlam

From what I read on forums, it’s odyssey if you have no budget or lenovo if you have it, almost any other is not even mentioned.

  • Andrew Jakobs

Sadly none here in the Netherlands.

    • Dr FlimFlam

lenovo shops and amazon were selling lenovo explorer for 150 this week over all europe

  • Jeon

Rock bottom? HAHAHA… You can snag them for around 150 with controllers if you don’t shop at price gouging stores.
