LetinAR, a Korea-based startup developing optical solutions for AR headsets and smartglasses, showed off a new implementation of their ‘pin mirror’ optical tech at Mobile World Congress (MWC) this week, bringing a sharp image quality, a large range of focal depth, and a field of view (FOV) that rivals many of the bigger players who instead use waveguide-based optics.
To significant anticipation, Microsoft revealed HoloLens 2 earlier this week at MWC 2019. NextVR, a company specializing in live VR broadcasting of sports and entertainment content, has finally launched their app on SteamVR after several months of listing it as “coming soon.” While the app has previously been available on Vive via HTC’s Viveport platform since early last year, Vive users who exclusively use SteamVR haven’t had access.
AT&T, one of the world’s largest telecom companies, this week announced plans to demonstrate cloud-rendered VR content streaming over a 5G network. The company says its 5G Lab, which is exploring use-cases for 5G and edge networking, will host the demonstration next month which will show SteamVR content rendered in the cloud and sent over a 5G network with low enough latency for a full 6DOF VR experience.
