OSVR’s newly announced HDK 2 packs a new display which brings a significant improvement in resolution and performance. The organization says they will make available a display upgrade allowing older HDK headsets to swap for the improved display.
There were a lot of VR games announced over the past two days at E3 by AAA game publishers. I watched all of the press conferences from Sony, Ubisoft, Bethesda, Microsoft, EA, and Oculus’ appearance at the PC Gaming Show in order to capture audio highlights of all of the VR news that was presented. I distilled over 8 hours worth of content down to 41 minutes of the most interesting audio highlights and analysis in today’s episode of The Voices of VR podcast. The expo floor opens today, but this year’s E3 in Los Angeles has already kicked off with some big names in the industry making fresh commitments to VR on both the software and hardware side of things. Here we take a look at the top 5 announcements from Day 0 of E3, ranked in no particular order (because who would agree?):
Final Fantasy fans can officially save their pennies, because the latest instalment, Final Fantasy XV, is making its way to PlayStation VR later this year – the only problem is we still don’t know exactly what form the so-called VR experience will take. The latest trailer does give us some clues though.
PlayStation VR Aim is a new Move-like gun peripheral employed by the newly announced PSVR title Farpoint. Sony quietly revealed the PSVR Aim controller during their E3 2016 PlayStation VR event. We went hands-on with both the game and the controller.
Sony had a handful of VR surprises for us at their Pre-E3 event last night and one of them will be very welcome to survival horror fans. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is coming to PlayStation VR this year and will be fully playable inside the VR headset from beginning to end.
PlayStation’s pre-E3 event teased a number of PSVR games from well-known names out there, including Batman: Arkham VR,Star Wars: X-Wing VR Missions, and Final Fantasy XV, but it looks like some original IP has made its way into the event’s rapid fire trailer releases as well. And horror game Here They Lie certainly is original, we’ll give them that.
Sony’s pre-E3 press conference saw the announcement of a number of high-profile games headed for PSVR after the headset’s October 13th launch, and to wit, we’re currently perusing over 20 PSVR games right now in the post-press mop up.
A Star Wars: Battlefront game was teased for PlayStation VR back during GDC last March, and we also caught a glimpse during the E3 keynote address, but we’ve today learned the name of PSVR’s Star Wars game to come, and it’s all about X-Wings.
A new Batman experience is on its way exclusively to PlayStation VR, as announced on stage at Sony’s pre-E3 PlayStation event, it’s called Batman: Arkham VR and it’s developed by franchise veterans Rocksteady Studios.
Sony takes centre stage in LA as the pre-E3 press conferences come to a close. We’re hoping for a barrage of new PlayStation VR games, and more information on the now confirmed upgraded PS4 ‘NEO’ console.
Serious Sam is going virtual in their newly announced VR game, Serious Sam VR: The Last Hope, a gore-filled VR shooter targeting both Steam VR and Oculus Rift.
