We go hands-on with Rebellion’s update to Atari’s arcade classic Battle Zone and discover that this VR reboot is anything but a cheap VR cash-in on a retro title.
We scrounged, scraped, and combed for every single Morpheus game currently demoing in Sony’s booth at E3 2015 in Los Angeles. Here’s our complete list, coming to 17 impressively varied VR demos for the PlayStation 4.
With games like Crysis (2007) and Ryse: Son of Rome (2013), Crytek has cultivated a reputation for making beautiful games. The company’s VR team, which just announced Robinson: The Journey as their first title, is keeping with that tradition in full force. Their prototype of the game, shown at E3 2015, is one of the most expansive and visually impressive VR demos I’ve ever seen.
We got the chance to go hands-on with the first VR title from Guerilla Games Cambridge, Rigs: Mechanized Combat League. This gameplay video covers a full 3v3 match in Sony’s special press-only area housing 6 demo pods, players in all took part in the match.
I had a great time with Rigs and despite my short time with the game, that statement is important. Whilst it was undoubtedly technically impressive, the game’s polished visuals were matched by weighty, depth-filled FPS gameplay in a multiplayer setting that worked really well.
Apologies for the poor quality of the video, filming conditions were far from ideal. However, despite the video not doing the game’s accomplished visuals justice, it does give you a good impression of that vertical gameplay and a feel for the speed and intensity of gameplay.
Road to VR are in LA covering E3 all week. Stay tuned for all the VR news from the show.
