While Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland has been known to be working on various VR projects, San Diego Comic-Con 2016 could see the debut of the first such experience that’s actually based on the popular IP. Additionally, an American Horror Story and The Man in the High Castle VR experiences will be featured during SDCC 2016.

Spotted by eagle-eyed reader Lenny Glionna in a post on Toucan, the official Comic-Con blog, was mention of a Rick and Morty Virtual Reality experience headed to the ‘Adult Swim on the Green’ event at SDCC 2016. The post was later updated to remove the mention of the experience, though it isn’t clear if that’s because it’s been pulled or simply wasn’t supposed to have been made public yet. We’ve reached out to Comic-Con and Adult Swim for comment.

As an early supporter of the revitalized VR space, Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland has made no secret of his love for virtual reality and that he’s been working on several VR projects. A tweet last month makes it quite clear:

And another makes things perhaps even more clear… or maybe less… I’m not sure:

While Roiland has confirmed his work on an original game for the HTC Vive, a VR experience built around the Rick and Morty IP has not been made official, though it may end up making a debut at Adult Swim’s event at SDCC later this month. If so, it’s not yet clear if it would be a simple marketing experience or a game proper; the former would be our guess, though a full fledged version of Roy would be most welcome.

In addition to the potential for Rick and Morty in virtual reality at SDCC, VR experiences based on two other major television franchises are confirmed to make an appearance at SDCC. Visitors to FX’s FXHIBITION during the event will get a chance to “face [their] fears” in the American Horror Story VR Experience. Further, Amazon’s event at SDCC will feature “an exclusive 4D virtual reality experience” of the company’s original series, The Man in the High Castle.
