Super Ventures is a new incubator focusing on AR, VR, and wearables. The group recently announced the opening of its first $10 million fund a well as two initial investments.

Founded by AR and wearable industry devotees, Super Ventures says they’re the first fund and incubator “dedicated” to AR, but not unwilling to get some VR and wearable action on the side. The firm conceptualizes their aim by focusing on technology which they say gives humans “superpowers;” that which extends our capabilities in a natural way.

The firm’s founder, Ori Inbar is also the CEO of the company that produces Augmented World Expo, one of AR’s largest conferences, which has been using the same ‘superpowers’ concept as a major part of its branding.

It’s no surprise then that Augmented World Expo will be the culminating site of a ‘demo day’ at the end of Super Ventures’ inaugural incubation program which will see 12 companies through three months of mentorship.

Prior to Super Ventures, Inbar has been involved in augmented reality as co-founder of AR startup Ogmento, which would go on to become Flyby Media (recently acquired by Apple). The rest of the Super Ventures partners include Matt Miesnieks, Mark Billinghurst, and Tom Emrich, who all emerge from the augmented reality space.

At the announcement of the new $10 million fund, Super Ventures says they’re already invested in two named companies—Waygo and Fringefy—as well as a third which is still in stealth, but said to be working on “an intelligence system to crowdsource visual data.”
