Sneaking suspicion there’s a Quest 3 or Quest 3S under the tree? Whether you’re into active games, puzzles, or just want to slice or shoot the ever-living crap out of something, we’re here to help you settle into your new headset with a few games that should keep you playing for hundreds of hours yet to come.

Note: This list includes only Quest-native games. Don’t forget that you can also play PC games with Quest Link, Air Link, or Valve’s Steam Link, and of course a VR-ready PC. Find out if your PC is ready for Link.

While we’d suggest checking out the top free games first, we hope this list will make for a great starting point, with genres floating around $100 and featuring some tried-and-true games for cardio freaks, shooter fans, puzzle nerds, fantasy swordplay geeks, and much more. Click through each category, or pick and mix using the legend below:

Multiplayer Shooting Madness

Forefront – $20

If you’re looking for the most Battlefield-like VR game out there, Forefront is the 16v16 immersive shooter of your dreams. While still in early access, you’ll be able to choose from your standard classes, pilot a host of vehicles, and battle through a variety of expansive, semi-destructible environments.

Zero Caliber 2 – $25

While Zero Caliber 2 packs in an eight-hour single player campaign, not only can you play in four-player co-op, but also classic multiplayer game modes with up to 10 players. It looks (and plays) amazing on Quest 3.

Contractors Showdown : ExfilZone – $20

It’s not the battle royale game some hoped it would become, but now Contractors Showdown: ExfilZone is a full-on extraction shooter in the vein of Escape from Tarkov, you plan your assault in an attempt to nab loot and extract alive. Progression, gunplay and gear is deep, which is a double-edged sword; more experienced players can discourage newcomers, although pushing through it is definitely worth it.

Spatial Ops – $20

It’s not for everyone, simply because of the space required, although consider Spatial Ops a bit of a sub-in if you’re not into extraction shooters and are looking for more of a laser tag shooting experience. You can play online or with a bunch of other Quest-owning pals – just make sure you’ve got a large-size area to romp around in.

Strayed – $20

Strayed is not forgiving, so be warned. This fast-paced open world VR survival game is essentially vanilla RUST in VR—including more griefing psychopaths than you can shake a rock at. While not a shooter in the traditional sense, you’ll start with nothing on a fresh island, gather materials, craft weapons, build bases, and battle other players for the best loot—which ultimately is guns, armor, ammo, pipe bombs: the lot.

            I still maintain they should raise the price, then put it on sale for the original price. That should shut everyone up, right?

            nah they make a ton from dlc music packs, they should really lower the price to get more people in because theyll end up selling multiples more just from sound packs.

      Just because a game’s old doesn’t mean it is worth less. Normally, costs fall as sales slow. If sales are still strong, why should developers cut costs? Particularly in VR, which is a growing market. There’s always a new player coming in.

      Also:
      Moss: Last year.
      Beat Saber: technically this year, though paid beta access began last year.
      These games didn’t all come out YEARS ago.

      The oldest of these is… Superhot, which first came out in 2013 as a freeware title before being expanded and release as a “real game” and then reworked for VR before being YET AGAIN being reworked for the Quest earlier this year. It was old when the first paid version came out. And people still love it, because the game has a very unique style(both in terms of visuals and play).

      And … none of this matters. If someone is new to VR, they haven’t played any of these except maybe Superhot. It doesn’t have to be new to be new to you.

        it would be nice for some of them to reduce a bit after a while so there isnt a second big pay wall for newcomers. after spending a few hundred on a headset you have to spend another hundred on games and thats commonly overlooked which does devalue the experience a bit.

          “AAA” just means bloated, big budget, and soulless. They need to drop in price because they are mostly generic games. They are pumped big by gaming sites and the suckers buy them at full price and then sales dry up, so they drop them in price. But let’s be honest, on the PC, most “AAA” games can be bought for 10-20 dollars cheaper on release day itself.

            Games are horribly overpriced anyway and most people never finish them.

          The worth of a game is completely unrelated to its age. A game can be worthless garbage on launch day or worth every penny years later.

          Though at least at this juncture in time, we’re not arguing that BRAND-NEW games need to see their purchase price slashed by 90% because they are several years old. Every game on last year’s list is over a year old now.

      Those games have stood the test of time. It’s supply and demand – the demand is still high for those games, so the price will continue to be high. (Though, I;ve purchased every single one of them on one sale or another.) Other games that have stayed high price b/c of quality include games like Minecraft and Divinity: Original Sin 2.

          Was great on Daydream original, spoiled on my Daydream 2017 and my Rift CV1 by their Fresnel lenses causing very off-putting god-rays, Index has been better with touch of glare but not god rays on vvr

            Seems a bit buggy to me, maybe because one of my controllers stopped working, need to recharge battery, but on wihte enviroment game seems pretty clear.

            That’s good to hear. VVR looked good in original Daydream but small aperture aspherical lenses so FOV limited.

            2017 daydream had bigger FOV and much better clarity but VVR was spoiled at time by off-putting Fresnel lens artifacts. Rift CV1 was worse for VVR. It’s much better on Index and thankfully not getting glare problems

    Don’t overlook SideQuest ! RTCW is probably the best game on Quest at the moment for sheer length of play and immersive quality. It’s $3.99 on Steam for the original content which you can then manually copy to Dr. Beef’s amazing Quest port. He’s also done Half Life and Quake – all brilliantly playable.

        I know this is old, but that’s such a dumb take… lol

        Resident Evil 4 is possibly one of the best games I’ve played on Quest so far, and that game is over a decade old, and not originally made for VR.

        For visuals and immersion it can’t really compete with a game like Sainis and Sinners, but it’s still pretty immersive, and fantastic gameplay.

    Boy, I’m in a pickle now. Facebook refunded the full price of Marvel Powers Unite to me with a $40 credit to the Oculus store. That would mean that I could buy a Quest 2 and almost get the Elite Strap for free. But it would mean supporting Facebook AND having to use my Facebook login, which I hate. On the third, and most frustrating, hand, there really isn’t a major competitor in the mobile VR space, and I love the freedom that the original Quest offered so much that I don’t want to give it up forever…

      If you can wait, in 2021 there will be more competitors for mobile VR (as was said by qualcomm during the presentation of the XR2 chip which the Quest 2 uses). So maybe we’ll see some new products during the coming CES which is only a few weeks away.
      Only other way ofcourse is buying an index or something like that, with a wireless transmitter.. I feel you, I still use the HTC Vive Pro and the thing that bothers me the most, is the cable (for me the wireless unit is way too expensive, you can (almost) buy a Quest 2 for that price), the second thing are the lenses, but the rest of the headset is excellent (for me)..

          Well revive can help you a lot with that.. and I agree, 1300 is a lot.. I just checked, I would almost need to pay 399 euro’s to be able to use my Vive Pro wireless, that’s not gonna happen..

        Yeah, I just decided to put my Rift CV1 up on Craigslist/Facebook Marketplace. That leaves me with a Quest 1, but the plan has been to upgrade my PC’s graphics card (running a 1070) at some point next year and then get a new PC VR headset. But if I’m able to sell my Rift, then that plus the $40 in Oculus credit makes a Quest 2 fairly compelling, at least for now.

        I mean, I could always just write off the $40 and consider having gotten a refund to be a moral victory, but…eh?

          personally I would buy the Quest 2 then, but I don’t have a problem with Facebook in regard to the Quest 2.. And once you’ve got your Quest 2 you can always sell your original Quest.

            Pretty much. We’ll see how the Rift sale goes. Assuming that it sells, selling the Quest too would give me a pretty significant amount to put towards a Quest 2 purchase.

      Quest 2 is a huge improvement. And keep in mind the 25+ and upcoming oculus funded games- Asgard’s wrath, stormland, shadow point, Phantom Covert Ops, robo recall, Journey of the gods, wilson’s heart, lone echo 1 and 2, the climb 1 and 2, From other Suns, the unspoken, lies beneath, Ghost giant(pc exclusive to quest), Brass Tactics, Dirty Rally, Chronos, Edge of Nowhere, Lucky’s tale, Landfall, Vader Immortal, SW Galaxy’s Edge, defense grid 2 vr, Jurassic world aftermath and upcoming splinter cell. Experiences like Wolves in the wall and dear angelica.

        Yeah, I just put my Rift CV1 up for sale on the various website, which leaves me with a Quest 1. If the Rift sells, I’ll see if I can sell the Quest. Between the two of those and the $40 credit, that should make a Quest 2 super affordable.

    I would add Pokerstars VR to this list, and ProPutt, and Real VR Fishing. Not as flashy as the games listed here but offer hours of fun.

    Personally I would say, if you have the PC to run VR, spend the $100 on SteamVR, you can buy A LOT of games on SteamVR for $100 when they are on sale.. Shame Indiegala doesn’t have a lot of VR bundles anymore..

        The problem is that developers currently focus on gimmicky titles with “fun gameplay”, and almost no studio cares about including a good story and interesting characters, or at least interesting exploration with high quality map design (the environment being a character in itself).

        So, you might enjoy those “fun” titles, but we story driven gamers don’t have anything to enjoy ATM, so forgive us for being vocal on forums and trying to draw attention to the issue.

    Haha, i will never spend even a dollar on a Quest game, as long as PC games with VorpX have better story, scope and graphics. And besides, there are so many VR mods for flat games coming in the next year, that i can honestly say – times have changed since i bought my first HMD in 2019 (Rift S).

  • Unless I’m reading this wrong, the fact it seems you consider Sniper Elite a higher ranked choice than RE4 VR is a joke imo. I played Sniper Elite and found so much of it just clunky as hell. It’s not even close to the quality of RE4 VR. And Superhot is very cool for what it is, but RE4 VR just wipes the floor with it if you have to pick one to buy.

    This list is as old as the hills. Actual answer to how you should spend your first $100: Asgard's Wrath 2 ($40), Walkabout Minigolf ($15), Into the Radius ($30), Red Matter or The Room ($25+). And wait for sales or work the referral program and you can add Assassin's Creed: Nexus, Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners, Demeo, and Into Black.

    I bought many Quest 3 only VR games, but only „Behemoth“ was some fun. I play PC VR modded Skyrim VR most of the time. No Quest 3 native game compares to the quality and experience of this seven years old game!
