‘League of Legends’ and ‘Lego’ AR Experiences Coming to Android

At today’s Google hardware event in San Francisco, the company previewed various augmented reality apps built using the ARCore SDK, including a League of Legends AR map and a Lego AR model builder. ARCore is Google’s equivalent to Apple’s ARKit – supported by their new flagship Pixel 2 smartphone, and coming to many other high-end Android devices.

At Microsoft’s special Mixed Reality event today, the company announced that all of their VR headsets destined to ship this holiday season are accounted for, and are now available for pre-order including headsets from Acer, Dell, HP, Lenovo and the newly revealed Samsung ‘HMD Odyssey’. There’s still no word on a launch date for Asus’ futuristic low-poly headset.

Microsoft’s Windows VR headsets (branded as ‘Mixed Reality’) are nearly ready to ship, coming alongside the launch of Windows Fall Creators Update in mid-October. Announced today at Microsoft’s Windows Mixed Reality event, the company says a “preview” of SteamVR compatibility is sure to arrive sometime during the holiday season, giving its line of VR headsets access to the Steam’s vast library of room-scale games.
