Speaking at the Games for Change 2017 conference, Magic Leap “Chief Gaming Wizard” Graeme Devine offered some insight into the types of AR experiences the company has been building internally, and offers up what he believes will be the format of AR content which will “define a generation.”

Thanks to a built-in video processor, the mCable Gaming Edition HDMI cable [Amazon] applies image enhancements—including a custom anti-aliasing-like solution—to most source devices with HDMI output. Marketed mainly towards gaming console HDTV output, the cable also supports 1080p at 120Hz, making it suitable for the PlayStation VR headset, according to the company. Sounds ridiculous, right? We thought so too, but reputable sources have been surprised to find it really seems to work as advertised.

Oculus Rift Closes in on Steam Majority Market Share

According to the latest figures from Steam’s Hardware & Software Survey, the Oculus Rift has picked up an additional 3.1% of the market share of VR headsets on Steam. On the trail end of a major summer sale, the headset has set its new record high for the third month in a row. The HTC Vive maintains the majority with 50.2% share of headsets in use on Steam, but the Rift looms near.

‘Luna’ to Launch October 17th on Rift, Vive, and Windows VR

Luna is an intriguing looking title coming from indie studio Funomena, and backed by some of the minds behind indie PS3 blockbuster Journey (2012). The studio has announced a launch date for October 17th and that the game will be coming to the Rift, Vive, and Windows VR (and PC).

AMC Theaters, the largest cinema chain worldwide, and largest in the United States, has announced a strategic investment in Dreamscape Immersive, a firm developing multi-user out-of-home VR attractions. AMC is leading a $20 million investment in the company—aimed at rolling out a number of VR attractions both inside and outside of AMC theaters—and is committing $10 million to a fund to generate bespoke VR content for the facilities.
