Battlezone will be among the first PlayStation VR games you’ll be able to play when you plug your shiny new PlayStation VR headset into the PS4 this October. A new gameplay video shows the launch sequence for the ‘Cobra’ hover tank you’ll be piloting, and a glimpse of the environments in which you’ll do battle with your robotic foes.
Road to VR co-founder Ben Lang and writer Scott Hayden attended the Oculus Game Days 2016 event on Sunday and joined me for a roundtable discussion about their launch title highlights, some analysis about the event, the future of Touch as well as their reflections on the 3 new touch games, price, and comfort ratings. There were 30 launch titles, 6 touch games, and 5 other experiences that will be released either in April or Spring 2017.

Eagle Flight, the upcoming multiplayer game from Ubisoft Montreal, looks to be nearing finalization with the latest build we saw at the pre-GDC Oculus Gameday event. And while the game sounds like it ought to make you want to barf, we’ve finally got a good handle on some of the secret sauce behind the game’s comfort-based locomotion elements.
After playing the latest build of Dead & Buried, the gun-slinging action game from Oculus Studios, I walked away disappointed. Disappointed that I would have to wait many months still for Oculus to release their Touch controllers so that I’d be able to experience again the frantic fun I just had.
Oculus presented a bevy of games at their pre-GDC Gameday event, some launching on the 28th of March alongside the Rift and some destined for Touch, the company’s natural input controller heading to consumers in Q3 of this year. We went hands-on with VR Sports Challenge from Sanzaru Games, a game that promises to make you feel like you’re the star of the weekend highlight reel.
Damaged Core is a first-person shooter from High Voltage Software that’s offering a unique solution to one of the biggest problems facing first-person games in VR today—locomotion. And while the game’s own brand of teleportation may take more than a minute to explain, the results culminate in a fast-paced, explosive jaunt through a large futuristic battlefield that will have you spanning the entire map with ease, and a deadly purpose.
Games like Chronos seem to be a rarity these days: a narrative-driven action-adventure with a rich world, challenging combat, and no reward-driven feedback loops. After just 20 minutes of what the developers tell me will be a near 12 hour campaign, I can’t wait to dig into Chronos’ masterfully directed world.
Oculus’ pre-GDC ‘Game Days’ event was an opportunity for the company to flaunt its substantial line up of original virtual reality content for the forthcoming Rift headset.
